Change your name to something that represents you or what you are about.
Write about subjects that aren't on the news, but something you feel strongly about or is something controversial that not a lot of people know about. Get outraged! Haha
Alright, Matt, want to know how to get more subscribers, I'll let you in on a secret. Subcribe yourself to those 'Blogs of Note' and your page will be up there for everyone to look at, and then you yourself go off and subscribe to others channels that interest you. ONLY interest you or it will be pointless, and comment on their channels. Others will see your comments, a few will click on your page. Do this repetitively and you can get a lot. For example, go to my page, find 5 blogs of my followers that interest you, subscribe to them, and comment on a post they have that's interesting. In return you will receive more followers. Do this. And lots of this and numbers will come I assure you!
